Have you ever been in a spot where you wanted something so badly, but for some unexplainable reason, couldn’t find the guts to go for it?
I remember this crazy experience I had with a cutie recently.
She was my No.1 crush and for the past couple of weeks, I’d been trying to summon the courage to approach her.
I’d memorized all the nice lines and sweet words. I was ready.
Or at least I thought so.
Till the next time I saw her.
She was in my street, walking around looking so majestic that royals would probably kiss the ground she stepped on.
Instantly, I felt it. Today was going to be my lucky day.
I proceeded to “ginjah my swagger”, drank a lot of water and got a couple high fives from my friends.
I was ready.
I started to slowly make my way to her, and then it happened.
Suddenly, I was hit by an overwhelming feeling. I was miles away from her, my heart was beating so fast I thought it would pop out of my chest. I was sweaty, shaky and looking for my courage like a drowning man grasping for straws.
And to top it off, I felt like all that water I’d drank earlier had just disappeared.
Have you ever felt this way? Or is it just me?
Feeling like a ‘’jagaban’’ and “person wey rain don beat”, I walked past her like she didn’t exist.
Then I stopped and turned towards her.
I said: “Hello..”
She smiled and I thought I’d hit the jackpot but then my mouth betrayed me…..
The next words out of my mouth were:
‘’ Please, I’m lost, how do I get to 5th Avenue?’’(You’re probably laughing at me as you read this)
There and then I knew something was wrong with my big head.
I couldn’t sleep that night ‘cos my friends “stroked” me while I sat down there and felt like a loser.
Do guys like me still exist in this 21st Century??
If you are, then you need to understand a couple things
#1. Being shy doesn’t make you less human than the people who seem like they aren’t. and 1001 other people on this planet also feel the same way.
#2. Your opinion and how you view yourself should be more important to you than what others think of you.
#3. Accept yourself the way you are. So you’re shy, accept that but it shouldn’t stop you from going after what you want.
#4. Surround yourself with people and things that make you feel comfortable.
#5. Associate more with people of similar interests even if they’re members of the opposite sex.
#6. See yourself the way you want others to see you.
#7. Be social, and create an environment that attracts positive people.
#8. Never force yourself on anyone. Create the right environment and the right people for you would come to you.
#9. Remember you are unique in your own way. Accept and love yourself for that.
#10. When things don’t go as you’d hoped (maybe you were rejected by a cutie), don’t beat yourself up.
#11. Remember, Rome was not built in a day. Accept that it will take some time and keep working on yourself.
#12. Love yourself just the way you are.
It’s Your Turn
